Syllabus

 

  1. Introductions

    1. In our Community, please share how you have used technology in the past to support your own roles in your learning environment.

    2. Share at least 1 goal you have for integrating technology into your learning environment.

  2. Minds-On
    1. Purpose: To Understand how tech platforms help with the real world. To experience authentic learning.
    2. Check out the following website: Multimedia Approaches in Teacher Education
    3. Task: Please poste the following in our Community. Using a mindmap, or a Venn, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using technology for the following purposes:
      1. Social/Networking
      2. Information
      3. Visual Literacy
      4. Content Curation
      5. Content Creation
      6. Tracking Student Learning
  3. Choose Your Own Adventure
    1. Because we all have different entry points for the different types of learning we need, please choose at least 1 'adventure' that you would like to go on, to enhance your own learning needs with technology:
      1. Mobile Technology and Personal Devices
        1. Purpose: Brainstorm ways to apply various apps that can be used with mobile and personal devices that can be used in a particular lesson or learning strategy.
        2. Check out the following links: Video in the classrom and Teaching and Learning with Multi-media
        3. Task: Choose 1 app or technology your choice that you are interested in to do / record one of the following:
          1. Write an original piece of music
          2. Sketch a picture
          3. Create a presentation for parents, staff, etc., that explains how you would like to use mobile technologies.
          4. Create a book talk using any technology, ie., Explain Everything, Glogster, Podcast, YouTube, ShadowPuppetEdu and more.
          5. Integrate into any subject
          6. Open a Twitter account
      2. Embedding a YouTube video
        1. Purpose: To learn the basic functions for choosing and sharing key videos for learning purposes.
        2. Task: Please view the following website: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_y7rrfftbk
          1. Register an account for YouTube (gmail)
          2. Either create a video and upload, or find a video and upload.
          3. Remember you can keep this video private if it is your creation.
          4. Embed it into a website or blog. Please share the link in our Community Forum!
      3. Create a Podcast
        1. Purpose: To explore the creation of a Podcast and find key uses for your own learning environment.
        2. Task: Check out the following links: Creating Podcasts with your StudentsPodcasting in and out of the Classroom  or Podcast - TeacherCast
        3. Create a podcast using an app or program of your choice, and share the link with us in the Community Forum!
      4. Working in Shared Documents: ie., Google Doces, Microsoft OneNote
        1. Purpose: To learn how you can harness the technologies to work online together by creating shared docs.
        2. Task: Please watch the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Itn3WIhQ6NQ
        3. In groups, you will work together on a shared document.
        4. Please share in our Community forums!
      5. Gamification
        1. Purpose: To discuss our experiences with games from our past and present and understand how our past experiences serve as an entry point for our current knowledge.
        2. Task: Please see the following websites: Gamification in Education and 10 Specific Ideas to Gamify your Classroom
        3. Find a game that you would like to explore more with your class. Share with us what the game is, and list the pros and cons of using this in your learning environment.
      6. Slideshow Presentation
        1. Purpose: To understand how you will integrate technology into your programming in holistic ways.
        2. Task: Create a brief presentation for an audience on how to engage students and present.
        3. Post in our Blog or online community if you would like to share and receive feedback.
  4. Social BookMarking
    1. Purpose: To learn about the importance of content curation and social bookmarking with Web 2.0 technologies.
    2. Task: Start your own social bookmarking site and add 5 important resources that can help you in your practice. The social bookmarking site could be one that promotes (and not limited to):
      1. Social/Networking (ie., Facebook, PLN, Book Club, Resource Sharing)
      2. Visual Literacy (Pinterest)
      3. Information (LinkedIn, Blog,)
      4. Creation (Blog or website , ePortfolio)
      5. Tracking Student Learning (Evernote, Google Forms, can be private)
  5. Tracking the Learning
    1.  Purpose: To harness technology that can help students to self-assess
    2. Task: Using either an app like Socrative, or a web-based app like Kahoot, or a Google Form, Create your own interactive quiz, or self-reflection for your learners to answer based on your own material/lesson, and present.
    3. Please share in our Community forum:)
  6. Culminating Task
    1. Purpose: To create something using the technology above, that can be used in your own program planning.
    2. Task: Create an lesson using any technology or technologies that you would like. Demonstrate the technology that you would like to use.
    3. Explain how this kind of technology will be used in your own learning environment. Think about how it will benefit your learners.
    4. Either share in our community, or share in your own blog or website and post the link in our Forum!
